Tis the Season

It's giveaway time! Answer the question I posted on my Facebook page and you'll be entered to win a women's Columbia neck gaiter. It's super soft, very warm, and wicks sweat away.  The giveaway will end on Friday so you better hurry. I will send it via USPS as soon as the winner is drawn.

Quick story. Did you hear about the runner who was hit by a deer? Apparently she was running when a car came by and struck a deer which then landed on her knocking her unconscious. True story.
I've often thought about this happening when I run in the dark. The deer population here in flat NW Minnesota is very high. I've had a few deer run out in front of me when I've been running but I've never actually witnessed one getting hit by a car.

While running, walking, or biking a driver is more likely to focus on the pedestrian then a deer walking out on to the road. The odds of this happening are very low but definitely could be deadly. She is very lucky. Ouch, Ouch, and double ouch.

As I thought about this story a little more the song "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer" popped in my head. Then I wondered what the runners name was. Since I didn't know I found that my friend Jana has a great name for this song. Jana got run over by a reindeer. I think I immediately thought of her because she has a great sense of humor. I imagine her hearing this story and saying to me, "See that's one more reason why running is dangerous and you shouldn't do it." She claims to hate running. She even owns a shirt that states that fact. I believe she hasn't given it a chance. It's a lot like a husband- Jana pay attention here. It can leave you feeling warm and fuzzy or cold and bitter, it's there for you when you need it most, it has seen you at your best and worst, it embraces you, and it looks good on you (well at least one of them does).

Tis the season to embrace something new!
