Keeping It Fresh

I like to mix things up a bit to keep from burning out. I've been a runner for 4 years now and I live in a very small community so the majority of my runs either go straight east or straight west. It can get a bit boring and monotonous from time to time so trying out something new keeps it fresh. YOLO!

Here are a few different races you can do to keep running fun.

May 2012: Tough Mudder

June 2012: Warrior Dash

July 2012: 81 on 81 (Relay- 81 miles overnight)

September 2012: Some of us NFD members run our own 5K

October 2012: Zombie Run

October 2012: NARC Halloween 5K

December 2012: NARC Ugly sweater 5K

March 2013: Shamrock Run (My own run)

July 2013: Run or Dye

September 2013: IllumiNight 5K

This past Saturday night a few friends and I ran the IllumiNight 5K and we really stood out. We were honestly the only ones with this much illumination. I thought for sure there would be more creativity.

We probably blinded a few people and I think Emily blinded herself with that smiley. Notice her chin lighting up? We received quite a few compliments and we even had a mom ask if we'd take pictures with her kids. Of course! I noticed a lot of lens' pointed in our direction. We weren't used to all that attention and we sure got a lot of it.

We thought we had the "Best Illuminated" contest in the bag. Even the volunteers were cheering us on through the course. Unfortunately we came in 2nd Place just under the "Fire Wives" who outnumbered us by about 15. Each team screamed for themselves since the crowd, who was suppose to vote based on noise level, was full of party poopers. Yeah us 4 against 20 super excited ladies- we had no chance. And they were barely Illuminated.

The only thing I was disappointed in was the prizes. It's geared toward local Fargo runners and not us out of towners. We don't get to Fargo much and that's where all the 5 gift cards were from. The prizes didn't really matter because we had a blast!

The technicians at Digi-Key are already brainstorming our "costumes" for next year.

How would we look in suits like this?
